Announcement of the postponement of the filming of the movie “The Last Passenger”.

To everyone who has supported the production of the short film “The Last Passenger,” which is set in the disaster area.

In light of the onslaught of the new coronavirus, which is causing a crisis around the world, we have decided to postpone the filming and other production plans that had been planned for this spring.

Through the production and screening of The Last Passenger, scheduled to be released in 2021, 10 years after the earthquake, this project aims to support the development of local industry and the cultivation of the next generation from the recovery, without letting the memories and lessons learned from the disaster fade away.

With so many people in the world actually suffering, should we be forced to make a film on such a subject? We have been worrying about this and have made some adjustments at the last minute.

There are a lot of people involved in the filming.

The location of the shoot could cause overshooting.

In consideration of the safety of the cast and crew, and the generosity of our supporters, we have made the painful choice to postpone filming this spring.

While our goal is to complete the film in March 2021, we will continue to review the filming plan and confirm and adjust it with related parties.

With the response and support from so many people, it is with great regret that we announce the postponement of the filming, which was so close to the goal, but we have come to the following conclusion.

We will make another announcement as soon as the new plan is finalized, and thank you for your understanding and continued support.

[Director Takashi Horie’s comment]

The coronavirus is raging around the world and many people are suffering from it. We have decided to postpone the filming from the end of March due to concerns about the overshoot of infected people in Tokyo.

Since I started to construe this script five years ago, I have overcome many difficulties in order to shoot this film, and finally I made the last-minute decision to shoot next week. I am very disappointed, but I have come to the conclusion that I have no choice but to postpone it for the safety of all the cast and staff involved in the shooting.

I’m really sorry for those of you who are looking forward to the completion of this project and hoping to see this film as soon as possible, but my goal of releasing the film next year on March 11th remains the same. As soon as the coronavirus problem subsides, we will start to adjust the shooting again.

I’m with all of you in wanting to see this movie as soon as possible! We can’t afford to succumb to the coronavirus. It’s not an easy road, but we will be preparing for another shoot that should be even better.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Takashi Horie: The director of ‘The Last Passenger’.
